There are countless activities to partake in at Watauga Lake…from boat and canoe rentals, to fishing and water skiing, there’s something to please every member of your family or group. Watauga Lake is also within 30 to 40 minutes of North Carolina’s High Country where you can enjoy countless outdoor adventures such as whitewater rafting, hiking, biking and much more.

It’s the highest peak in the Blue Ridge and a nature preserve of global importance. Take a heart-pounding walk across the famous Mile High Swinging Bridge, photograph bears, otters, and other wildlife in natural habitats, and hike some of the South’s best trails. Also features nature museum, nature movies, restaurant, gift shops and picnic areas. One mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 305. Open all year, weather permitting in winter.

See inside a mountain…NC’s only show cave. Half-hour guided tours into a natural limestone cavern featuring stalactite and stalagmite formations and an underground stream. Open daily from April through November and open weekends from December through February.

North Carolina’s first family theme park with a fun-filled train ride aboard the historic train known as Tweetsie. Tweetsie Railroad has amusement rides for all ages, live entertainment, gem mining, deer park, shops, and restaurants. Open Fri., Sat., Sun., in May. Seven days a week from Memorial Day through mid-August. Fri., Sat., Sun., from mid-August through October, 9 AM to 6 PM.
